SMP is a non-surgical cosmetic treatment that deposits tiny dots of pigment into the scalp to create the appearance of hair follicles.

For clients with existing hair, SMP can reduce the contrast between the scalp and hair, creating the appearance of fuller, thicker hair. It can also be used to create the appearance of a closely shaved head and may help camouflage certain scars.

SMP does not grow new hair. It creates the appearance of greater density.

HOW LONG DOES SMP LAST?

SMP is considered a long-lasting cosmetic treatment, but it will gradually fade over time.

Results commonly last several years before a refresh may be desired. Longevity varies depending on skin type, sun exposure, lifestyle, scalp condition and aftercare.

Maintenance sessions can be performed as needed to refresh the color and density.

WHO MAY NOT BE A CANDIDATE?

Your safety comes first.

SMP may need to be postponed or require medical clearance for certain health conditions or medications. This can include uncontrolled diabetes or high blood pressure, active scalp infections or inflammation, conditions that affect healing or immunity, and active cancer treatment.

We do not perform SMP during pregnancy.

HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?

SMP is a gradual process. The number of sessions depends on your treatment area, scalp, pigment retention and desired density. Your package includes up to the number of sessions listed above.

IS SMP PAINFUL?

Sensitivity varies from person to person. Most clients experience some level of discomfort or sensitivity, but the treatment is generally well tolerated.

WILL SMP MAKE MY HAIR GROW YET?

No. SMP does not stimulate hair growth. It creates the illusion of greater density by reducing the contrast between your scalp and existing hair.

WILL SMP TURN BLUE?

SMP is performed using specialized pigments and techniques designed for the scalp. As with all cosmetic pigmentation, color can change and fade over time, which is why proper technique, aftercare and maintenance are important.

CAN I HAVE SMP IF I’M STILL LOSING HAIR?

Possible. Progressive hair loss needs to be considered when designing your treatment so your SMP continues to look natural as your hair changes. We’ll discuss this during your consultation.

HOW OFTEN WILL I NEED A TOUCHUP?

There isn’t one schedule for everyone. Some clients may want a refresh after several years, while others may go longer.

BEFORE YOUR SMP APPOINTMENT

Please arrive with a clean, healthy scalp.

Avoid alcohol before your appointment and avoid applying styling products, oils or other scalp products on the day of your treatment.

If you have active irritation, inflammation, infection, open wounds, severe flaking or another active scalp condition, your appointment may need to be postponed until the scalp has healed.

If you take prescription medications or blood-thinning medications, do not discontinue them on your own. Please discuss any concerns with your healthcare provider and let your SMP artist know during your consultation.

AFTER YOUR SMP TREATMENT

Your scalp may look slightly red or feel sensitive immediately following treatment. This is temporary.

During healing:

Follow the washing instructions provided by your artist

Avoid scratching, picking or removing flakes/scabs

Avoid heavy sweating, swimming, saunas and excessive moisture during the initial healing period

Avoid hair dye or chemical treatments until your scalp has fully healed

Protect your scalp from excessive sun exposure

You will receive complete aftercare instructions following your appointment
